The Parent and Grandparent Program is a program that allows you to reconnect with your families via the sponsorship of your parents and grandparents. The Government of Canada will accept 30,000 applications based on a lottery system.

Through the Parent and Grandparent Program, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident can permanently relocate to Canada with their parents or grandparents. It’s one of IRCC’s (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada) programs that help families to reunite.

During late September and early October 2021, Canada’s Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP) welcomed up to 30,000 extra applications, allowing more Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residency in the country.

In addition, 10,000 applications from the 2020 intake process will also be a part of the 2021 PGP intake, implying that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) expects to receive up to 40,000 PGP applications this year alone.

Parent and Grandparent Program Benefits

The major advantage of this Parents Sponsorship Canada program is that it allows them to reconnect with their family members.

The grandkids or children might work extra hours under this scheme. Once your parents or grandparents meet the conditions, they too shall be able to make use of the land’s advantages.

Free healthcare is one of the perks, as is the ability to apply for citizenship if they can work there as well. With the greatest care, parents or grandparents may achieve a greater quality of life and comfort.

How can potential PGP sponsors qualify for an invitation?

The 2021 Parent and Grandparent Program used the same random invitation procedure, or lottery, as in previous years. Potential sponsors first filled out an interest in sponsoring’ form. For the 2021 procedure, the steps for applying to sponsor parents and grandparents for Canadian permanent residency were slightly different from the previous years. Potential sponsors were chosen at random and invited from the remaining pool of interest forms received in 2020. IRCC then sent out enough application invites to meet its application intake objectives.

IRCC’s new Permanent Resident Digital Intake tool, which allows applications to be filed electronically, will be available to invited sponsors. This is part of the IRCC’s commitment to modernizing Canada’s immigration system, which includes expediting and streamlining the application process.

What should I do if I receive a PGP 2021 invitation?

It is important that you fulfil the PGP 2021 eligibility requirements. To meet the PGP eligibility requirement, the following conditions must be met:

You must be at least 18 years of age, a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a member of a federally recognized First Nation.

You must also demonstrate to IRCC that you have the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI). The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) must receive your notices of assessment for the tax years 2020, 2019, and 2018.

If you meet the criteria and choose to proceed, you will have 60 days to submit your entire sponsorship application to IRCC, along with the required payment. The PGP is developing as a means of reuniting families as part of a family reunion program that assists applicants on humanitarian grounds.

Individuals living in Quebec who wish to sponsor a parent or grandparent must have their income assessed by the Quebec Immigration Ministry, which is based on the province’s income criteria.
